Location: Nairobi
Salary: KES 100,000 – 120,000

Job Summary

Our client, a reputable retail company, is seeking to hire a General Manager to provide strategic leadership and oversee all aspects of the company’s operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving growth, maintaining operational excellence, managing staff performance, and ensuring the company consistently delivers exceptional products and services to its clients.

The ideal candidate is a visionary and hands-on leader with a proven track record in business management, operations, and people leadership. They must possess strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple departments efficiently in a dynamic work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to ensure company objectives and performance targets are met.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including production, sales, HR, logistics, and finance.
  • Develop and execute strategic business plans to enhance growth, productivity, and profitability.
  • Drive operational efficiency through effective systems, workflows, and resource management.
  • Monitor and evaluate the company’s financial performance, budgets, and cost structures.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams across all departments.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality execution of client orders, maintaining excellent service standards.
  • Oversee procurement, inventory management, and supply chain efficiency.
  • Strengthen relationships with corporate clients, suppliers, and strategic partners.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks to safeguard company assets and reputation.
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, labor laws, and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management processes.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to drive brand awareness and customer retention.
  • Lead management reporting, performance reviews, and strategic decision-making sessions.
  • Foster innovation and introduce process improvements to enhance operational outcomes.
  • Represent the company at stakeholder meetings, client presentations, and industry events.
  • Provide regular progress updates and strategic recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field (Master’s Degree is an added advantage).
  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in operations or general management, preferably within retail, FMCG, or gifting industries.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong financial management, analytical, and strategic planning abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP or management systems.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
