Job Summary

Our client is seeking a competent, detail-oriented, and results-driven Accountant to oversee daily financial operations and ensure the organization maintains accurate financial records, regulatory compliance, and sound financial management practices.

The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end accounting functions, including bookkeeping, statutory tax compliance, payroll administration, treasury management, and preparation of management reports. The role requires a proactive professional capable of working independently while supporting operational and strategic financial decision-making within a telecommunications business environment.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Bookkeeping

  • Maintain complete and accurate financial records in accordance with accepted accounting principles and company policies.
  • Perform full-cycle bookkeeping using Xero accounting software, ensuring timely posting of all financial transactions.
  • Record daily transactions, including revenue recognition, expenses, accruals, prepayments, and journal adjustments.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Prepare monthly bank, cash, supplier, and customer reconciliations.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice verification, payment processing, and collections follow-up.
  • Maintain proper financial documentation and organized filing systems for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Monitor expense allocations and ensure correct coding of financial transactions.

Taxation & Statutory Compliance

  • Prepare and submit statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, corporate income tax, and other applicable regulatory filings.
  • Ensure timely statutory remittances and compliance with Kenya Revenue Authority requirements.
  • Maintain statutory schedules and supporting documentation for tax submissions.
  • Monitor changes in tax regulations and advise management on compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities during audits and assessments.

Payroll Administration

  • Process monthly payroll accurately and within defined timelines.
  • Calculate statutory deductions including PAYE, NSSF, NHIF/SHIF, and other mandatory contributions.
  • Maintain payroll records, employee earnings schedules, and reconciliation reports.
  • Ensure payroll compliance with labour laws and internal policies.
  • Address payroll-related queries while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Monitor daily cash flow positions and ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
  • Prepare payment schedules and facilitate supplier, operational, and statutory payments.
  • Manage company bank accounts, including reconciliations and transaction monitoring.
  • Support execution of local and cross-border financial transactions.
  • Maintain accurate cash forecasts and assist management in financial planning.
  • Ensure adherence to approval controls and payment authorization procedures.

Financial Reporting & Management Accounts

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow reports.
  • Analyse financial performance and highlight key variances against budgets and forecasts.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.
  • Provide financial data and reports to support management decision-making.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and oversee asset tracking and depreciation schedules.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial closing processes.

Audit, Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain audit-ready financial records at all times.
  • Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit exercises.
  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend process improvements.
  • Support the implementation of financial policies and compliance frameworks.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Monitor operational expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Support procurement verification and financial documentation review.
  • Assist management with financial analysis and reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting systems and financial processes.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • CPA Part II, CPA finalist, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum 2–4 years’ progressive accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in bookkeeping, statutory compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Proven experience in payroll processing and reconciliations.
  • Experience handling treasury functions and payment processing.
  • Practical working knowledge of Xero accounting software is required.
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan tax regulations and accounting practices.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Must currently reside in Nairobi or the surrounding areas.
