Accountant Intern

Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Accountant Intern who will support the finance team in delivering timely and reliable financial information, assist in day-to-day accounting functions, and gain hands-on experience in compliance with Kenyan accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining and updating general ledger accounts.
- Support the preparation and processing of journal entries, invoices, payments, and receipts.
- Help reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and customer accounts.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Provide support in month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare schedules and documentation for audits under supervision.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with Kenyan tax laws and preparation of tax returns (PAYE, VAT, withholding taxes)
- Help maintain fixed assets registers and depreciation schedules.
- Support the timely submission of statutory reports and filings.
- Support payroll processing by preparing and verifying employee salary schedules, statutory deductions, and allowances, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with company policies and Kenyan regulations.
- Help maintain internal controls and adherence to financial policies.
- Assist in budget preparation and monitoring of expenses.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accuracy of financial data.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with Finance or Accounting option from a recognized institution (recent graduates or final-year students encouraged to apply).
- CPA qualification or ongoing CPA studies is an added advantage.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Familiarity with accounting software such as SAP, SAGE, QuickBooks, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
