Job Summary

Our client, a reputable and growing company based in Kisumu, is looking to hire a qualified and dependable Accountant to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and supporting sound financial management and reporting. The position strictly requires an Indian native who is fluent in Gujarati, due to internal cultural and communication needs within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records by posting daily transactions into the accounting system and ensuring all entries are well-supported and properly classified.
  • Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts on a regular basis to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including reviewing invoices, processing payments, following up on outstanding receivables, and maintaining supplier/customer records.
  • Monitor daily cash flow movements, prepare cash flow forecasts, and advise management on liquidity status and funding needs.
  • Coordinate payroll processing, verify accuracy of salary computations, and ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions including PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, and Pension.
  • Prepare and file all statutory tax returns (VAT, Withholding Tax, Income Tax, etc.) in compliance with KRA deadlines and ensure supporting documentation is well-organized.
  • Assist in annual and quarterly budgeting, collecting data from departments, compiling budget documents, and aligning estimates with company objectives.
  • Track budget performance by analyzing actual spending against approved budgets and preparing variance reports with explanations and recommendations.
  • Support internal financial controls by ensuring that approvals, documentation, and segregation of duties are followed across financial processes.
  •  Coordinate both internal and external audit exercises, prepare audit schedules, and respond to audit queries and recommendations.
  • Oversee inventory and fixed assets records, including periodic physical verification, tagging, and depreciation tracking.
  • Support procurement and operational decisions by tracking financial commitments, verifying supplier terms, and ensuring expenditure is within approved limits.
  • Liaise with banks, vendors, and statutory authorities to manage relationships, resolve financial issues, and ensure smooth transactional flows

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • CPA qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Sound understanding of Kenyan tax laws and statutory compliance.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Tally, or Sage.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
  • High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be an Indian native and fluent in Gujarati.
